TESS COULD FEEL LEVI’S gaze on her face, so she turned away from the pastor to meet his eyes. That look he’d given her in the tack shed a couple weeks ago was back, and Tess wanted to tell him how many butterflies had filled her stomach when she saw him standing at the altar waiting for her.

His green eyes were dancing with excitement, or delight, or something even happier that Tess couldn’t define. She’d never seen him look so jubilant and she hoped he knew she felt the exact same way. She relished the feel of his warm hands holding hers, and how calm he seemed.

She hadn’t dared to dream that Levi would be her match, but now that she was standing across from him, it made so much sense. They were fated, weren’t they? She’d convinced herself that it was just a flirtation, an infatuation that would blow over, but as she stood there poised to become his wife, she knew that it was so much more than that.

Getting married was the biggest decision that a person would make in their life, and because it was Levi, she felt certain and safe. And in that moment, those feelings were all the reassurances she needed. The fairytale ending she’d always hoped for was coming true, and it was even better than she’d imagined it would be.

“I do,” Levi said, jarring Tess from her thoughts.

The pastor started reciting the vows for Tess, and her heart clenched in her chest when she said “I do” to the man she thought she’d never get a chance with.

“You may now kiss your bride,” the pastor said, signaling the end of the ceremony and a new beginning for Tess and Levi.

“I’ve been wanting to do this again for weeks,” Levi said as he caressed her cheek. Then he reached around her waist with his other hand, pulled her tightly into him, and kissed her like she’d been dying for him to kiss her since that day in the tack shed.

She closed her eyes, and for a moment, she forgot that they were in front of all their coworkers, her family, and friends. For a moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world, and that everything on earth and in heaven had conspired for them to end up in each other’s arms on this magical night.

When Levi pulled away and Tess finally opened her eyes, she realized for the first time that it had gotten dark, and the lights that had been so carefully strung over the square made her feel like a fairy princess. When they turned to face the crowd, their arms held high, she reveled in the cheers for their union. Then she found Dr. Lachele and met her gaze. “Thank you,” she mouthed.

Dr. Lachele just winked. Tess didn’t know how that woman did what she did, but she was dang good at it because now that she was officially married to Levi, she wasn’t sure how she would have ever gotten along without him.
